Everyone in the world is under some form of stress at all times, but if you are feeling overwhelmed by life’s daily demands then lavender essential oil is for you. Lavender essential oil contains many sedative compounds to help relax the central nervous system; this is one oil I would hate to ever be without.
There are many ways to incorporate lavender essential oil into your daily life without time consuming preparation and expensive lists of ingredients. One of the easiest ways to enjoy the calming benefits of lavender is the inhalation method. This simply means to inhale the vapors of the oil itself, you can do this by taking the lid off the bottle and inhaling. Next place a few drops of the lavender essential oil on a tissue or cotton ball, then place this inside a plastic baggy, inhale the vapors as needed. This way you will be able to enjoy the relaxing fragrance any time of the day that you want.
For relief of a tension headache brought on by a stressful situation, put a few drops of the lavender essential oil in an aroma lamp or on a lamp ring and let the fragrant vapors work their magic.
Now what person wouldn’t enjoy a nice hot bath after a hard day’s work? Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to a filled tub or whirlpool, a thin layer of the aromatic film will cover the body as the steamy vapors relax and distress the mind, body and spirit. After your bath if you still feel a little on the edge, I have a wonderful way to complete the day. Have your significant other or another family member give you a relaxing massage with the lavender essential oil. Take 10 to 15 drops of the oil and mix with about a tablespoon of base oil like almond oil, or grape seed oil. As you tire, aching muscles relax to the rhythmic massage the aroma of the lavender essential oil takes those last threads of the every day stresses and dissolves them away. After you have thoroughly relaxed take one of those cotton balls out of the sealed baggy and place inside your pillowcase, this will help promote restful and sweet slumber.
Lavender essential oil has many other great properties about it, lavender essential oil is one of the few essential oils that can be applied “neat” or undiluted, on the skin. So don’t worry about it spilling on you when you are working with this particular oil. Lavender is very helpful around the house, you can add several drops to your washer’s final rinse cycle, or scent a cloth with a few drops and throw it into the dryer to freshen a load of newly laundered clothes.
All of these uses for lavender essential oil are based on the aromatic properties that it has and the effects on the emotional state and well being of mind and body. I hope that you will at least try a small bottle for yourself, and be as pleasantly and fragrantly surprised as I was at the many benefits this wonderful oil has.
